Welcome to Zion United Methodist Church!
We are a church committed to sharing the news of salvation available through faith in Jesus Christ.
We are pleased to announce that starting on July 1, 2017, the Rev. Daniel Hyer will be serving as our new pastor. Dan is from Brighton, Michigan and is the middle child in between two sisters. He grew up playing guitar on various worship teams and playing hockey in high school. Dan received his call to Ministry when he was 17, and continues to lean on Christ's guidance in his life. He has a love for people and hearing their stories. A youth ministry major at Spring Arbor University, Dan is passionate for young adults to have a place and a chance to feel welcomed. He loves road biking and anything outdoors, the Detroit Red Wings, and laughing with others over a good cup of coffee. His wife Mary is from a small, Northern Indiana town called Culver, and grew up loving theatre and music. Dan and she in their first year at Asbury Theological Seminary, and they were married in June 2015. She loves hiking, music, anything artsy, and attempting to make Pinterest recipes--especially when combined with laughter and friends. Mary will be serving as a pastor too, at Erie United Methodist Church.
Food Closet Every Second Wednesday
On the second Wednesday of every month, we hold a food closet giveaway. Our next food closet will be Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Low income families from Monroe County are eligible to come and receive assistance through MCOP with groceries based on family size. We begin handing out food at 6 PM, but it's first-come first-served, so people usually begin arriving by 5:30 PM.
Pastor Joel to leave at end of June
It was announced on Sunday, January 29, 2017 by the chair of our Staff-Parish Relations Committee, Ginger Sykes, that Pastor Joel Walther will be leaving the church at the end of June. Read the official letter of announcement here.
