(AP) Officers are searching for a medium pistol possibly a .32 caliber automatic -in the mysterious slaying of a Cairo mother of two.

At the same time they awaited a complete autopsy report from the State Crime Laboratory. The bullet-riddled body of the 38-year-old mother, Mrs. Geraldine Louise Singletary, was found late Monday in a ditch about five miles north of Whigham, approximately eight miles west of here. Sheriff James T. Hicks said a partial autopsy report showed that Mrs.

Singletary was shot in the back at least six times. "We are checking every possible clue." Hicks said, "but it's a slow process and we have nothing new to report." Officers believe that some kind of automatic weapon that did not require reloading was used in the slaying. They think the woman was shot where she was found. Bullets that bore some fragments of clothing were dug from the earth beneath her body. Officers said Mrs.

Singletary's undergarments were wadded under the body, and her dress was on inside out. Coroner J. Lauren Clark said he will not hold an inquest until the full laboratory report is received. He said that crime lab technicians will rush the information to authorities as soon as possible, "but it requires a certain amount of time to perform some of the tests." Mrs. Singletary's body was found five days after she vanished from the Cairo Motor Court on U.

S. 84. She and her husband, Fondren Singletary, operated the motel. The sheriff quoted Singletary as saying he and his wife watched television until about 12:30 a. m.

when he went bed. He awoke at 5 a. m. to find the television and lights still on and his wife missing. Hicks said Singletary found the cash box open and about $150 missing.

His wife's glasses were still in the office, as were some peas she had been shelling for the freezer. The front door to their living quarters was unlocked, the sheriff said.
